Born on 12th March 1931 in Mortlake, Surrey, died on 2nd April 2024 at home in Cambridge.

David grew up in Reading. After National Service (1950-1951) in Suez, he studied Geography at Reading University. Then followed a 30-year career with Esso Petroleum in various management positions. In 1966 he married Barbara, an Austrian national, in Salzburg, Austria. The couple moved to Cambridge in 1977, where they have lived until today, while making frequent visits to Austria. The marriage produced two children, Anna and Peter.

He had always been a keen sportsman, gardener and cook. Following early retirement in 1985 he was able to devote even more time to these activities, playing golf at the Gog Magog Golf Club well into his 80’s. Over the years he was also an active member of various societies in the Cambridge area.

He will be deeply missed.
